Sefakwe new Junior Chamber International Gaborone president

 Ms Galaletsang Sefakwe has been sworn in as the new president of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Gaborone for the 2024 tenure, in Gaborone Saturday.

Together with her elected board of management, they promised to uphold the mandate of JCI and grow to greatness.

In her keynote address, the area Councillor for Itumeleng Ward in Block 3, Ms Motamma Horatius said the appointment had brought opportune time to reflect on the profound idea that motivated their efforts themed, Grow to Greatness.

Ms Horatius said as they embarked on this journey of growth, the significance of organisations such as JCI Gaborone must fully be recognised.

“Your dedication to community development, youth empowerment, and leadership development is critical in influencing the future of our city and country,” she said.

Ms Horatius said ‘Growth’ was more than just a metric of economic wealth since it reflected their joint efforts to nurture talent, stimulate innovation, and develop inclusive societies.

She reiterated that it was about providing chances for all people, regardless of background or circumstance, and empowering them to achieve their greatest potential.

“As we welcome new leadership to JCI Gaborone, let us reaffirm commitment to growth in all areas,” she said.

Ms Horatius encouraged the JCI board of management to increase their effect, influence, and reach, not for selfish gain, but for the benefit of communities and the world.

However, she said progress was not without its obstacles, therefore, there should be the willingness to face challenges full on, adjust to changing circumstances, and accept failure as a step towards success.

In her acceptance speech, President of JCI Gaborone, Ms Galaletsang Sefakwe said as the 2024 Gaborone board of directors they promise to drive the FIT City initiative which strives for physical and mental fitness.

She said through Neo Health Wellness Centre and Drug-Free is the New Cool, the aim was to keep the city clean with Gaborone City Council.

“We promise to grow your talents through our leadership programmes that will help you find areas of opportunity. We promise to grow membership through going into the city and schools searching for youth and providing training through the Adopt-A-Youth program and start by moulding them into greatness,” she said.
