Construction of primary school next month

The construction of a new primary school planned for Gumare will start in March, according to Okavango District Council (ODC) chairperson, Mr Gaopalelwe Ronald. 

He made the announcement on Monday while opening the ODC full council meeting. 

The project is expected to be implemented through the Development Manager (DM) model.

In addition to the school in Gumare, consultations were conducted in the financial year 2023/2024 regarding the construction of school facilities at Tsodilo. 

Mr Ronald noted that the Tsodilo projects were already underway and are at various stages of construction.

Furthermore, the district has other projects under the Economic Recovery Transformation Programme (ERTP) for the financial year 2021/2022. 

These projects include the construction of a new fully-fledged primary school at Rwee ward in Shakawe, as well as the construction of school facilities in Eretsha and Mokgacha.

Mr Ronald mentioned that the construction of the primary school at Rwee in Shakawe began in January 2024, while the Eretsha and Mokgacha projects were nearing completion stages. 

The district has also been awarded P6.9 million for the maintenance of two primary schools, in Gudigwa and Nxamasere, with four packages divided amongst them.

As Mr Ronald further explained, two of the projects have already commenced while the remaining projects awere still  at procurement stage. These projects, he said.

He would  drive economic activities in the district on a temporary basis during construction and would ultimately result in permanent job creation once the education facilities were complete as well as  improving access to education. Ends
