12 Feb 2024

In recognition of the support that local communities render to their business, Sefalana has donated 100 food hampers to the community of Lepashe as part of its social responsibility initiative.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the hampers on Friday, Sefalana regional manager - north, Mr Thatayaone Nkwe said since their establishment in 1974, they have grown tremendously as a result of the support of local communities which include the people of Lepashe.

He stated that as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, they had this year chosen to appreciate the positive impact the communities had had on their growth and success.

Mr Nkwe commended Lepashe and other nearby villages for having supported and ensured the success of their Tutume branch, which opened for business in 2002.

He said the opening of yet another entity being a Sefalana Shopper in Tutume during the course of the past 22 years was testimony of the communities’ unwavering support, hence they had decided to give back to them. In addition, the regional manager pointed out that their business had spread their wings beyond the borders of Botswana to countries such as Namibia where they had shops and South Africa where they had established a consortium.

Appreciating Sefalana for their gesture, council secretary for Tutume District Council Mr Joseph Banyatsang thanked the business for responding to the needs of marginalised communities, in particular their less-privileged members.

Mr Banyatsang said as a business entity operating within local communities they were enjoined to give back, and hailed the many companies in the country that continued to adhere to their social responsibility initiatives.

He said the 100 hampers that were given out would have a positive impact in the lives of more than 100 individuals as beneficiaries would share them with their families and dependents.

Earlier on in his welcome remarks, Kgosi Mmoloki Tshabisa commended Sefalana for the donation, saying the hampers would positively impact the lives of their recipients and their families. ends
