12 Feb 2024

Ngwato Development Trust has donated 100 plastic chairs to the newly completed kgotla structure at Konyana Ward in Serowe, a gesture that seeks to promote self-reliance.

The donation is also a response by Ngwato Development Trust to lend residents of Kanyana Ward a helping hand after seeing through, the construction of their kgotla shelter that started in 2020. “I applaud you for single-handedly starting and finishing your project without waiting for anyone to do it for you.

Our purpose as a trust is to help you complete what you have already started, given the limited resources at our disposal,” the trust secretary, Mr Keolopile Gaborone said when handing over the chairs on Friday.

Mr Gaborone said the chairs that cost P 8 400 were their efforts to give back to the community because the trust believed in investing in long term projects that benefited people over time. Ngwato Development Trust was formed in 2008 with the sole intention of safe-guarding and generating income through properties belonging to the community.

Funds generated go towards completing identified community projects. Mr Gaborone mentioned Leupane Ranch, Palapye Warehouse, Serowe Show Grounds, Radihemelo and Serwe farma as well as Serowe Dam as some of the properties that were rented out to individuals and businesses.

Trust chairperson, Mr Charles Kabelo stated that they made it their business to assist the less fortunate such as destitute persons who did not meet social services criteria. Kgosi Thebe Mathake of Konyana ward expressed gratitude to the trust for heeding their plea and thanked Konyana residents for raising P1 200 to brand the chairs. ends
