Voter registration in the Goodhope/Mmathethe District is reportedly progressing well.

The recently released general elections registration statistics from Independent Electoral Commission show that the constituency was leading the pack with well over 15 000 registrations numbers, which principal registration officer, Ms Ntlogelang Makati hoped would increase before the end of the exercise tomorrow.

Ms Makati said people were registering in numbers throughout the constituency.

She was however quick to point out that since the constituency had new boundaries, some were still stuck in the old polling stations.

“Our constituency is new and so it has new boundaries and in some places new polling stations since the demarcation exercise.

So, others feel that the whole thing interferes with their interests,” said Ms Makati.

She also stated that some people were still reluctant to register because they first wanted to know the candidates.

The total population of the constituency is around 59 000 with a voting populace of 413 000 of which 80 per cent is targeted, translating to around 33 000. ENDS
