WUC gifts Khurutshe Primary School

01 Feb 2024

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) Mochudi Service Centre recently donated school shoes worth P20 000 to Khurutshe Primary School pupils.

The donation forms part of the corporate social responsibility by WUC meant to instill a sense of belonging to the pupils.

Speaking during the official handover of the shoes at Khurutshe settlement on Tuesday, WUC Mochudi general manager, Mr Dikgang Moses said the donation was an indication of the strong commitment of the corporation to care for customers and also formed the corporation’s greatest part of its transformational strategy.

He further said it was on the onus of the private companies to help government close the gap between the rich and the poor, especially after the economic downturn caused by COVID-19.

“The donation, which is not the first of its kind, is a way of extending a helping hand to people in remote area settlements and ensuring they are not left behind. Let us all be encouraged to give and spread love,” Mr Dikgang said.
For his part, Kgosi Peter Kgakole of Kgomodiatshaba thanked WUC for the donation.

“I am happy to see the corporation continuing to show love and support to the school as they have always been doing. I urge the community and the private companies to emulate what this company has done by being compassionate to the remote area settlement dwellers,” said Kgosi Kgakole.

Kgosi Kgakole said as most of the pupils were beneficiaries of the Poverty Eradication programme, there was sometimes delay in provision of school uniform by the social workers and as such the gesture by WUC was a welcome development.

He thanked the school management for taking care of the boarding pupils, stating that the mindset change initiative adopted by the staff had yielded positive academic results in the past year.

Kgosi Kgakole, however, pleaded with WUC to embark on  stakeholder engagements to teach people how best they could access their services online rather than having to travel long distances to make payments or enquiries.

In his vote of thanks, Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe commended WUC for their benevolence and patience in conducting the CSR projects in remote areas.

Mr Molokwe said the government’s agenda of leaving no one behind as inscribed in the National Vision 2036 pillars could only be achieved when the community, government and the private sector worked together. ENDS
