11 Dec 2013

As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence and Child Abuse commemoration, Love is Art presented a play dubbed Peace in Art.

Love is Art is a social enterprise whose primary focus is to raise funds for charity through performing arts ranging from acting, dance, singing and fine arts, and to spread awareness on the different social issues that Batswana face, mainly women and children.

This time, Love is Art’s charity of choice for the donation of the proceeds was Kagisano Society Women’s Shelter as they are doing a commendable job of fighting gender based violence.

Founded by Nyakallo Kamyuka and Pato Kelesitse, Love is Art’s aim is to promote the different arts that exist in the country, and show that art could be used to convey positive messages and are able to reach a wider audience. The cast is made of professional actors who showcased another amazing play called Flowers.

The play, Flowers, depicted and emphasised the way phases of abuse in a marriage manifest themselves through out until the woman get killed. Some scenes are emotive, portraying real life stories of how men can abuse women in a relationship through beatings and abusive language among others.

The play is dubbed Flowers because flowers are used by men to apologise every time after they have battered their women partners.

And in the end, it is the same flowers which were used as a token of love which are going to be laid at the women’s graves once the men have killed them. ENDS
