01 Feb 2024

About 50 tablets and chargers were stolen at Siviya Primary School recently.

North East District Council chief education secretary, Ms Mafoteng Mahole said the thieves gained access to the school premises through the fence and made away with tablets that were donated by Orange Botswana last year.

She said the thieves broke the burglar bars of the school head’s office and stole stationery, and tablets. She also said they opened the safe.

Ms Mahole estimated that the stolen gadgets were worth over P200 000 and that they were used by pupils doing Standard 5, 6 and 7.

She said the security company hired by the school would bear the costs as there was security lapse.

The security supervisor at Molaakwena Security Services, Mr Bethuel Maripe said the process of compensation was ongoing and that all the three guards manning the school were dismissed. ENDS
