01 Feb 2024

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi and President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa are expected to attend the 4th session of the Botswana/Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission in Maun next week.

The tourism town will host the session from Monday until Friday.

The commission gives the two neighbouring countries the opportunity to further strengthen existing relations as well as to explore other areas of possible cooperation.

The two countries have agreements and memorandum of understandings signed since the inaugural session in 2018. They have agreed to promote and explore cooperation in a number of areas including education, agriculture, defence and security, energy, environment as well as health.

Confirming the meeting, North West District commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka said preparations were on track.

He noted that it was not the first time Maun hosted the event as it was last held in the tourism town in 2020.

He said the council had  launched a clean up campaign and mobilised the community to help clean Maun and make it more attractive.

He added that they wanted to make the event memorable to visitors, businesses and the community.

Mr Waloka also said all stakeholders had been briefed and that hospitality facilities had been encouraged to provide excellent service to visitors.

He said the local organising committee had identified some areas of interest around Maun that the visitors could explore. He also said Maun residents would display their rich and diverse cultures and traditions through art and craft exhibitions during the meetings. ENDS
