Botswana Police Service donates 83rd house

23 Jan 2024

Members of the Botswana Police Service (BPS) donated a house to a needy person in  Maunatlala.

This marked the 83rd house donated by BPS members nationwide.

The house was handed over to Mr Kopano Lebang on Friday by the acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Solomon Mantswe.

Mr Mantswe stated that building houses for needy community members was a voluntary exercise under the police’s social responsibility programme. He emphasised that these efforts demonstrated the police’s importance in society and their contributions to community development, beyond their mandate of ensuring public safety and security.

He also said that police officers were capable of showing love and compassion to fellow citizens, especially those in need.

Mr Mantswe encouraged police officers to continue with the gesture and to include other deserving community members in their areas.

He expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the project financially, through volunteer labour, or emotional support, including police officers, the business community, and locals.

Mr Mantswe noted that from his experience, no project could be delivered without challenges.

Therefore, he said that challenges were ‘not meant to destroy, but rather to us strong, providing opportunities for better performance in the future.’

He also acknowledged the efforts of police officers in reducing crime in the county and urged Mr Lebang to cherish and look after the house.

Mr Mantswe advised Maunatlala residents to get involved in community policing for their own benefit and commended them for their active participation.

Member of Parliament for Lerala/Maunatlala, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele, expressed his gratitude to the police in Maunatlala for donating the house to Mr Lebang, emphasising that shelter was a basic right contributing to a dignified life.

In response, Mr Lebang also expressed his gratitude to the police for the gesture, stating that he would now be protected from harsh weather conditions.” ENDS
