Court remands murder accused persons

Ghanzi Senior Magistrate, Mpho Molema has remanded in custody two murder accused persons, Atlarelang Madumane (31) of Ghanzi and Lesego Mago of Kuke pending police investigations.
Madumane and Mago are separately facing a single count of murder.
The particulars of one of the cases are that Madumane on December 24, at Khurakhura ward in Ghanzi Administrative District, murdered Bonolo Thamage.
Appearing for the State, Sub Inspector Shathiso Ngebani pleaded with the court to remand the accused person as police investigations were at an infancy stage.
He however, pleaded with the court to allow for the Investigation Officer to take stand and advance reasons why the accused person should be remanded in custody.
In his submission, Detective Sub Inspector Kotewa Mohabano told the court that, the matter was reported on December 24 after an ensued fight between accused person and the deceased at Bluebanana tuck-shop at Kgaphamadi ward.
He told the court that during the fight the accused person allegedly stabbed the deceased with a sharp object and the deceased was taken to the hospital where he was certified dead.
Detective Sub Inspector Mohabano further said, it was reported that the accused person and the deceased were in business of selling dagga.
He therefore, requested the court to allow them a maximum period of two weeks to wrap up investigations, as they were to record statements from different witness in Maun and Gaborone.
Moreover, he said in their preliminary investigations, there were suspicions of dagga selling crews alleged to be residing in Maun and Gaborone whom the accused person’s mischievous act could have rubbed them the wrong way, therefore, his release could put his life in danger.
In the second matter, Mago is alleged to have on December 22 at D’kar settlement in the Ghanzi Administrative District murdered Tcaxe Daxo.
Public Prosecutor Ngebani also pleaded with court to remand the accused person citing incomplete police investigations.
He added that, investigating officer on the matter was unavailable due to work commitments in Maun preparing for the post mortem of the aforementioned deceased person.
In his submission, Mago pleaded with the court to allow him to go home since he had secured a job and was expected to report for duty on December 27.
The accused persons will appear again for mention on January 11. Ends
