Tourism School opens in Maun

14 Dec 2023

A new tourism training centre will open in Maun in January to provide prospective students with the required skills and competencies in the hospitality industry.

The Nhabe Tourism Training Centre aims to provide the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) accredited programmes.

The centre’s Managing Director, Mr Ali Tiego, said they would provide needed skills and competencies in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Mr Tiego said they opened for registration in October and appealed to prospective learners to register, adding that they were accredited by BQA.

He said they would provide short and long term courses to learners and excellent service to meet their needs and standards.

The vision of the centre, Mr Tiego said, was simply to be the best vocational institution in the provision of quality services within the tourism and hospitality industry for the economic empowerment of the youth.

He also said they were currently conducting basic tourism and hospitality awareness training for community trusts board members from the North West, Okavango, Boteti and Ghanzi districts as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Mr Tiego said participants were drilled on issues of good governance, communication skills, eco-tourism, leadership as well as management and financial skills.

He noted that issues of funds mismanagement were rife among community trusts and that the training was intended to minimise the problem.

He added that good governance also required board members to be equitable and diverse as well as effective and accountable.

“Governance is about ensuring that an organisation is effectively and appropriately managed in the best interests of the community,” he added. Ends
