Commitment by Tlokweng Land Board to deliver quality service to Batswana and working tirelessly to ensure customers are well assisted are commendable efforts.
Addressing the media at Tlokweng Land Board chamber on Friday, board chairperson Mr Elijah Katse noted satisfactory results achieved during the past and current financial years.
He however, said there was room for improvement through digitizing systems in order to surpass customer expectations.
“I wish to highlight that between August 2023 and November 2023 before the appointment of the boards across the country, the office received 110 applications for transfers, 6 applications for sub-divisions and 29 applications for land board consents in change of use. But in its first sitting of the November 27 which ends today, the board managed to consider and resolved all highlighted matters, which is an achievement worthy of appreciation and applause,” Mr Katse said.
He said Tlokweng was the smallest tribal territory in land size, but had the highest demand of land due to proximity to the capital city Gaborone.
He said the land board was constrained by unavailability of land to meet the demand hence the target of 1 101 plots to be allocated by end of December as contribution towards the national target of 100 000.
Mr Katse said to date the board had allocated 786 residential plots and were currently working on remaining balance to close the target before the end of the year.
On revenue collection, he said the land board managed to collect about P796 700 against a target of a little over P2.2 million.
The chairperson added that the land board embarked on revenue collection with strategies that included house to house campaigns, issuance of annual financial statements, reminder letters, telephonic engagements and a meeting with the board.
He said Tlokweng Land Board waiting list stood at 57 420 applications received since September 10, 2015 and a total of 52 291 had been verified and 5 129 applications were yet to be verified.
Mr Katse said they registered 572 secure land titles against 5 205 applications received from a total of 16 976 plots allocated in the district.
The board chairperson said one of the challenges they noted was that a number of ploughing fields were old allocations of Bogosi and the owners had not made an effort to regularise them with the land board, which hindered progress of the surveying exercise.
Quizzed on availability of land for plot allocation, he said the board would negotiate with land owners on acquiring the land so that many Batswana could benefit from such land.
In his welcome remarks, Tlokweng Land Board secretary Mr Kealeboga Kemoreile said they reflected on their services and engaged clients and stakeholders.
He said the land board represented the interest of Batswana as they managed land on their behalf.
He added that interaction with the media enabled the board to share with the public, achievements as well as challenges on delivery of their mandate. ends
