Palapye District Council chairperson applauds govt

11 Dec 2023

Government has been applauded for improving efficiency by upgrading sub-district to fully fledged districts.

Palapye District Council chairperson, Mr Jordan Makhura said the move required stakeholders in the district to work together for efficient planning and improved service delivery.

Mr Makhura, who was speaking during the chairperson’s Ball Friday in Palapye, said another noble achievement was that Palapye District Council continued to engage communities through kgotla meeting, taking services to the people and through social media platforms.

He thanked Palapye District Council employees for their contributions since constant interactions with communities made it possible for them to comprehend and effectively articulate the challenges faced by the people on the ground.

He encouraged employees and councillors to regularly engage with the electorate for timely service delivery and resolution of matters.

Mr Makhura stated that they were challenged with inadequate resources to meet the demands of communities, but acknowledged all organisations and individuals for their continued support because without them they could not have achieved their mandate and met their targets.

He applauded companies such as Morupule Coal Mine, Botswana Power Corporation, Botswana International University of Science and Technology, HYPRO and Skip Hire for working with the council during clean-up campaigns.

He also thanked councillors of Palapye District Council for their relentless efforts in serving their electorate.

“We come from afar bagaetsho

We started at Central District Council, which had 174 councillors by then and we continue to serve our electorate even after the decentralisation,” he said.

He pleaded with councillors and council employees to encourage Batswana to register and fully utilise all government initiatives as enlisted under Temo Letlotlo programme.

It is of paramount importance that government programmes are utilised for improved citizen livelihoods and employment creation, Mr Makhura said.

Councillors were awarded certificates of recognition for their hard work. ENDS
