LEA official lauds Bakers Affair for unwavering dedication

The annual Bakers Affair event has been has been lauded for its unwavering dedication to ensuring the continuous supply of confectionery products in Botswana.
Head of Sector Innovation responsible for the incubation programme at the Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Mr Monyadiwa Masilo said this at the Blue Tree Golf Gardens in Gaborone where bakers, pastry chefs and confectioners from the region had gathered to share their experiences and engage in meaningful discussions about the baking industry.
Efforts to maintain the availability of delightful treats have not gone unnoticed, especially after the boarders were closed for importation of confectionery products, Mr Masilo explained.
Speaking to the industry players on the role of LEA in their business, he highlighted that in today's challenging times raw material prices soured because Batswana do not produce raw materials locally.
He said prices fluctuate due to the global political climate.
He added that the dedication of upholding the supply of confectionery products played a vital role in bringing joy to people's lives and maintained the cherished traditions of baking.
“Your hard work and determination are not only appreciated but also essential in fostering a thriving confectionery industry in Botswana. Your steadfast commitment is truly commendable,” he said.
He also said the steady flow of detectable confections speaks volumes about the Bakers Affair’s professionalism, resilience, and passion for the craft.
“The contributions of the Bakers Affair are invaluable, and they undoubtedly enrich the lives of countless individuals who enjoy the sweet pleasures created by your skilled hands,” he further added.
The organiser of the event and Director of Len Bakeries, Ms Goitseone Lenyatso explained that Bakers Affair serves as a platform to expose bakers to a wider audience hence fostering and promoting the welfare and growth of the industry.
Ms Lenyatso explained that the event was not only the celebration of their growth, but also a forum to discuss their challenges and opportunities in the baking sector in recognition of the efforts by the government of Botswana.
The Bakers Affair also engaged in a panel discussion, and showcase of industry members’ innovative and traditional pastry products displayed in stalls.
Ms Fumane Solomon (41) of Bakers Heart from Tonota scooped the top award and became the winner of all the stalls that displayed various other delicious bread-made products.
“Our diverse product base, and focus on superior customer service has made Bakers Heart a proud supplier to a wide range of customers,” Ms Solomon said.
The judges were looking at creativity, the look and size, among others. In an interview, Ms Solomon said branding has taken her business to the top, and that alone shows that she takes her business seriously. ends
