When he assumed the highest office, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi promised to continue upholding the democratic principle of consultation.

He had emphasised the importance of consultation with all key stakeholders before decisions could be made.

Premised on that, Kanye South Member of Parliament Dr Lemogang Kwape has applauded President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi during his contribution to the State-of-the-Nation Address on Tuesday for keeping the promise as demonstrated by his engagement with the public through forums such as kgotla meetings.

He said the media, was also continually engaged through media briefings, particularly on President Masisi’s official engagements outside the country.

Dr Kwape who is also the minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said with the country emerging from the effects of COVID-19, efforts were made to resuscitate the economy with the hope of a better tomorrow through a number of initiatives.

He said such pointed towards the use of technology, which he said had intensified research development capabilities.

He hailed the new agreement between government and Debswana that would generate an additional P1 billion annually for the country in the next 10 years saying the development was for the good of the country.

In relation to power connectivity, MP Dr Kwape said five years ago, access to power was at 68 per cent and has moved to almost 74 per cent.

He said the target was to reach 100 per cent by the year 2030.

He said another positive development in power generation was the recent launch of a 300-megawatt power plant worth P28 billion at Mmamabula.

Even though he appreciated efforts made by government in allocating land, especially for residential use, Dr Kwape was concerned by the rate at which people were selling land.

He also added that the billion-pula project of improving the distribution of potable water was a positive development but urged the concerned ministry to equally focus on leakages of water along the distribution pipes which resulted in some localities not getting enough water.

Dr Kwape welcomed the planned 25km upgrading of internal roads in his constituency and appealed for the thorough inspection of ongoing works along the Selokolela-Lerolwane as well as Dithejwane roads.

He also added that the proposed road infrastructure must also consider access roads to villages such as Seherelela and Betesankwe.

Dr Kwape also called for the upgrading of Mahitshwane and Selokolela clinics.

He added serving the nation as a medical Doctor, Nurse or Pastor takes devotion and it must bring healing and comfort to the society, therefore appealing to those serving in those cadres to fulfil their promises without fail no matter the circumstances. Ends
