Over P68m for Gaborone Central developments

Over P68 million has been allocated for implementation of various projects in Gaborone Central from 2019 to date.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele told Parliament on Friday that the projects were implemented through different development programmes such as Community Constituency Projects (CCP) fund.
Mr Modukanele said the projects included completion of Maruapula clinic and community hall, shelter, paving of roads at Boikhutso, Notwane, Segoditshane locations and boundary wall at Tsholofelo community hall.
At Village location, Mr Modukanele said completion of recreational park and sports facilities was done.
He said other projects included installation of solar streets lights in Tsholofelo, Government, Village, Boikhutso and Maruapula wards as well as paving of internal roads in Segoditshane, Notwane and Maruapula which were completed through CCP in the past financial year.
Additionaly, Mr Modukanele said asphalt overlay, chip seal and paving will be implemented in selected areas in the respective wards of the constituency through CCP in the current financial year. He said construction of leobo at village and completion of ablution blocks at Extension II Park in Government ward were done under Ipelegeng programme.
Furthermore, Mr Modukanele said Segoditshane Primary School was maintained in 2021 while Lesedi Primary School repairs were done in 2022.
“There will be construction of two classroom blocks of three classrooms each at Boikhutso Primary School during the ongoing financial year through the Primary School Infrastructure Backlog Eradication Programme.
In addition, the assistant minister said that over P3.1 million would be spent on maintenance works at Bosele Primary School, clinic and maintenance of street lights at Bosele ward.
He said over P1.6 million had been budgeted for asphalt overlay of Bosele road and the project was at tender vetting stage.
He said implementation of the projects engaged local contractors, artisans and labourers from the constituency in line with the Local Economic Empowerment and Economic Inclusion Act.
Mr Modukanele said the projects also contributed to the skills development component as beneficiaries engaged were trained on different occupational skills such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, bricklaying and tiling.
He was responding to a question from the MP of Gaborone Central, Mr Tumisang Mangwegape-Healy who wanted an update on the developments implemented in the Gaborone Central since 2019 to date and citizen participation on the said projects. Ends
