Elections nurture democratic processes- Morwaeng

Elections play a critical role in choosing the government of choice. It is, therefore, important for Batswana to register in large numbers so that they can exercise their right to vote, says Member of Parliament for Molepolole South Mr Kabo Morwaeng.
Mr Morwaeng was speaking during a meeting with dikgosi, leaders of different church denominations and village district development committee members at Molepolole Main Kgotla on Monday.
He thus tasked local authorities and community leaders to encourage residents to register in large numbers during the November 1-30 national registration period.
Mr Morwaeng who is also the Minister for State President emphasised the importance of having a valid national identity card and to have attained the age of 18 years and above to register to vote.
He said all eligible Batswana should to register for the general elections as it was their right saying it gave them the opportunity to do so and ultimately choose their leaders to govern their country.
He said Botswana continued to enjoy peaceful and free elections envied by many as some experience political instability often leading to civil unrest. He said it was not only enough to register to vote but also undertake the voting itself so that they could make their leaders account when the need arises.
Minister Morwaeng said it was all systems ready for the Independent Electoral Commission as registration kicks off today. He reminded the leaders that the Molepolole South constituency would have an addition of Kotolaname/Losilakgokong ward after the delimitation commission report.
MP Morwaeng also extended his invitation to all men to attend the commemoration of International Men’s Day scheduled for November 19 but the constituency office would celebrate the day on November 17.
He further stated that November has been declared a month of prostate cancer and said it was therefore imperative for men to meet and discuss issues that affect them.
Kgosi John Seboni said members of the Dingaka Association should not be left behind during meetings such as these as they also help different people in the community.
Mr Steven Perekisi said developments play an important role in the lives of people more so that constituents weigh in on the work of their leaders by developments brought to them.
He, therefore, commended Minister Morwaeng for a job well done in bringing developments to them and attending to their different needs. ENDS
