Mulambakwena Primary School celebrates golden jubilee

23 Oct 2023

Kgosi Thabo Maruje III of Masunga has thanked the government for continuing to provide free education to Batswana.

Speaking during the golden jubilee celebrations of Mulambakwena Primary School, Kgosi Maruje III said when people were educated, they were placed to make better choices and informed decisions.

He said access to education remained one of the critical components that had transformed the North East region and brought lasting opportunities to an otherwise remote and far-away place.

He said as a result, the North East stood as the number one district that had contributed immensely to the country’s human capital needs and the economy.

Kgosi Maruje III urged pupils to study hard and shun the culture of entitlement, noting that parents were constantly under immense pressure and abuse from children because of their love for money, status and poor priorities.

School Head, Ms Reginah Osuagwa said the school had an enrolment of 182 boys and 163 girls and a staff complement of 16 teachers.

She said the school had been doing well, scoring over 80 per cent in the Primary School Leaving Examination and hoped for the best in the coming examinations.

Ms Osuagwa highlighted that the school was faced with challenges of shortage of accommodation and infrastructure that frustrated learning efforts. According to the Chairperson of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations committee, Mr Mmoloki Stephen, the objectives were to consider parents’ contributions in building their children and producing a better student.

The other objective was to thank the elders who found education as an overriding inheritance that could not be seized from anyone.

Mr Stephen urged parents to advise pupils to engage in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

“Through STEM, learners develop key skills that promote problem-solving and creativity,” he said.

A former pupil, class of 2021 who was a head-boy, Mr Comfort Gopolang commended his former teachers for going an extra mile by offering tutorials on Saturdays.

He observed that successful study groups were formed and this made learning easy.

He urged the learners to ‘hold on to the ladder of success’. ENDS
