BDP only trustworthy party -Masisi

23 Oct 2023

Okavango residents have been urged to vote for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the 2024 general elections as it is the only trustworthy party.

Addressing a political rally in Gudingwa on October 22, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said the BDP had honoured its manifesto and fulfilled its promises.

Among the 2019 promises that the party had fulfilled, President Masisi noted, was the establishment of a constitutional review commission and digitalisation through the provision of free, fast and reliable Internet that had been made available at schools, clinics and kgotla offices across the country.

He added that the provision of free and high speed Internet would create employment for the youth. The other promise fulfilled was the introduction of mother tongue as a medium of learning for pupils at lower classes.

The President informed residents that the reconstruction of the Francistown-Nata, Nata-Maun and Maun-Mohembo roads was on the pipeline.

He said government  prioritised the construction of the Okavango River Bridge because residents had been using the ferry, which was  unreliable. He said plans were also underway to gravel the Mohembo-Gudingwa road.

Dr Masisi said his aim was to improve the economic status of Batswana.

He said all communities, including in the Okavango region, should benefit from natural resources in their areas.

The President, who also welcomed 327 new members from opposition parties, said there was no alternative to the ruling party.

He advised democrats to vote for BDP candidates who were hard workers in the primary elections.

“I want strong and humble candidates for the party,” he said.

He said what happened in 2019 with opposition parties winning all the constituencies in Ngamiland was an anomaly that needed to be corrected.

He added that the BDP was eyeing to win both the Okavango constituencies.

The President further  implored Okavango residents to register for the coming general elections, adding  that registration would start on November 1 to 30. Ends
