15 Oct 2023

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to launch SmartBots Village Connectivity project in Maun on Wednesday.

The project is intended to accelerate digital connectivity by deploying state of the art ICT infrastructure to over 500 villages.

The focus is to connect public facilities such as dikgotla, health facilities, schools and other key government facilities to high speed internet to facilitate rollout and uptake of government online services and access to information in line with the Digital Connectivity Standards for villages.

The project, according to North West District commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka, was also aimed at facilitating digital transformation across the country.

“I call upon members of the community to embrace the project as it is going to change their lives for the better.

Through connectivity, we want a person as far as Khwai to easily access services online and be responded to without travelling long distances,” he added.

Those in businesses, Mr Waloka said in an interview, would also have an opportunity to market their products online as well as compete globally.

In the North West region, eight villages have been identified for the project and from the villages, 70 sites have been connected.

Mr Waloka said preparations for the launch were at an advanced stage.

He said the launch would be held simultaneously in 57 constituencies while in Palapye and Molepolole, it would be live-streamed.

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, will grace the Palapye event while the Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology, Mr Thulagano Segokgo will attend the Molepolole event. ENDS
