15 Oct 2023

In a bid to improve the cattle industry in Ngamiland, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will donate 36 bulls in the region as part of his bull drive donation initiative.

The four constituencies of Okavango, Ngami, Maun West and Maun East will each receive nine bulls.

The mass donation follows Dr Masisi’s recent visit where he promised 40 bulls for the region, to dispel talk that government prioritised tourism over farming.

North West regional agricultural coordinator, Mr Onkemetse Mathemabe, when  announcing the mass donation during the district development committee meeting, said the President would be accompanied by the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane and six cabinet ministers to undertake the exercise in various venues around Okavango and Ngami districts.

The exercise, he said would commence from October 19 to 22  and was demonstration of government’s determination and commitment to improve the quality and quantity of cattle in the region.

Dr Masisi is expected to donate six bulls in areas of Pelotshweu cattle post in the Kareng extension area, Somelo village, Sanyama cattle post in the Shorobe extension area while areas in the Okavango District will include Xwidhana cattle post in the Gudigwa extension area, Xabacha cattle post next to Tsodilo and Shakawe village respectively.

The Vice President is expected to donate at Samedupi, Makalamabedi and Phuduhudu.

The rest of the bulls will be delivered by ministers among them; Mr Fidelis Molao - Agriculture, who will be in Tobera and Eretsha in the Okavango District.
Mr Mathemabe appealed to members of the community to embrace the bull donation initiative as it could help Batswana become self-reliant and contribute to the growth of the economy. ENDS
