BEC postpones BGCSE examinations to October 30

13 Oct 2023

Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) 2023 examinations have been deferred by two weeks, says Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe.

The decision by the ministry comes after alleged malpractice at BGCSE level.

Briefing the media today, Dr Letsholathebe said investigations were ongoing and law enforcement officials were yet to reveal full information on what could have happened.

Dr Letsholathebe said that the situation was delicate and could cause pupils anxiety hence pleaded with members of the public to offer adequate counselling to pupils in their respective communities.

He said that an instruction had been passed on to senior school teachers, to exercise the same, and added that he was yet to convene a meeting with relevant stakeholders on the incident.

Where necessary, the ministry is committed to review its processes, to ensure an airtight procedure in the distribution of examination papers in order to preserve the integrity of the examination council, Dr Letsholathebe said. Ends
