President Awards Bulls
13 Oct 2023
Mr Edward Malongwa and Mr Nkanyane Sebase of Molepolole on Friday, received Brahman and Simmental bulls donated by Mr Basimanyana Masire and Mr Mmutle Stimela respectively.
The donations are part of President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s endeavour to improve quality of the national herd.
President Masisi described the two recipients as quality farmers, who fully take care of their livestock on a daily basis, hence they were selected among many.
Mr Sebasi grew up in the farms and after a number of years, started his own while Mr Malongwa became a full time farmer after retiring from teaching.
The President urged the two farmers to take care of the bulls and share them with neighbouring farmers, so that they too could improve their herd.
Selling semen and producing their own bulls is another option available to them, President Masisi advised.
He urged Batswana to donate bulls and rams with an aim to improve the nation’s standard of living through agriculture.
Meanwhile, the President said he required all Cabinet members to bring liquid nitrogen tanks to store semen during their meeting to be held in Ramatlabama, so as to lead by example in improving the national herd.
He said he chose Ramatlabama as some members, especially those not leading the agriculture portfolio, never visited the Artificial Insemination Centre. Therefore, it was crucial for them to do so and familiarise themselves with the facility that cost government millions of pula.
CEO of National Vision 2016 Council, Mr Christopher Molomo said the donation was part of the country’s aspirations of reaching a high-income status.
He said the vision was spearheaded by the President, who also wore the Vision Champion cap.
Mr Molomo said in line with the national vision, Botswana aspired to have a diversified economy, build an inclusive economy and promote innovation and productivity.
He urged the recipients to be exemplary among their fellow farmers and take care of the bulls.
The farmers were also presented with troughs donated by Jwaneng Citizen Economic Empowerment beneficiaries and were also provided with medication. Ends
