Botswana condemns Israel-Palestine hostilities

09 Oct 2023

Government of Botswana notes with deep concern the unfortunate developments in Israel and Gaza that have led to loss of innocent civilian lives including hundreds injured and displaced, as well as massive destruction of property.

A press statement form the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Botswana condemns in the strongest terms the continuing attacks and violence on civilian populations by both sides and calls on the belligerent parties to immediately cease hostilities and seek a negotiated settlement through peaceful means.

“Botswana is deeply concerned for the civilian population who should be protected in accordance with international law. It is indeed disappointing and disheartening that up to now efforts towards peace between Israel and Palestine, based on internationally recognised agreements remain unimplemented,” says the release.

The press release further states that Botswana calls for immediate implementation of these agreements and reaffirms its position for a peaceful resolution of the conflict as enshrined in the UN Charter, and further reiterates its long held stance of a two-state solution that will usher in a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
