Prize giving ceremonies are intended to reward learners who excel in their studies and encourage those lagging behind, says the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Aubrey Lesaso.
Congratulating those who excelled in their academic work during Bathoeng II JSS prize giving and 30th anniversary ceremony on Friday, Mr Lesaso thanked those who played a part to make the event successful.
He told the pupils that the prizes they received should serve as an incentive towards achieving success in their academic and personal lives.
Mr Lesaso further recognised teacher’s efforts and contribution in the quality of education they provide to pupils.
He said the theme; Basic Education; Gateway to Self-sustenance and Global Citizenship, challenged pupils, teachers, parents, community and stakeholders to make concerted efforts to realise the national aspirations espoused in the Vision 2036.
“Any investment in our children’s education should be applauded more so that we envision gravitating from resource based towards a knowledge based economy. The Ministry is aimed at producing 21st century learners who are globally competitive, hence government invests heavily in the education sector,” he said.
To the pupils who had not won any prize, he advised them not lose hope as this was not the end adding that there would be many more opportunities coming their way to prove their mettle.
Acting school head Ms Banabotlhe Chimbobi said the purpose of prize giving ceremony was to celebrate success in all its forms as publicly as possible .
She said the ceremony was a great thing to do for learners and one of the most rewarding things about working in a school.
“We also wanted everyone to revel in learning, to value it as an activity and a cool thing to do” she said. She explained that the school which was named after Kgosi Bathoen II started operating in 1993 hence the 30th celebration. ENDS
