Police in Gumare are investigating an incident in which a 40-year-old man of Habu succumbed to death from wounds he sustained from an assault.

In an interview, Assistant Superintendent Jerry Sabata said the man died at Nyangagbwe Referral Hospital in Francistown on September 29.

Assist Supt Sabata said the incident occurred recently at Metsimantsi cattle post near Nokaneng when the deceased and a 46-year-old suspect had a misunderstanding.

The suspect allegedly accused the deceased of having an affair with his girlfriend, therefore he attacked the deceased, hitting him on his head with the back of an axe about three times and the assault continued even after the victim had fallen down.

In another incident, Assist Supt Sabata said the police were investigating a case in which two men engaged in a fight at Subiya ward in Gumare on Independence Day. He said one of the men sustained serious wounds and was referred to Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone. 

Meanwhile Assistant Supt Sabata said during the independence holidays they recorded 55 road traffic cases including an accident that took place 15 kilometres from Nokaneng in which the driver tried to avoid kudus and the vehicle swerved away from the road and hit an electric pole.

Vehicle occupants sustained minor injuries. ends
