Sepopa psychiatric report null void

A psychiatric report on the mental state of double murder accused, Mogomotsi Sepopa has been rendered null and void.
This follows a Lobatse High Court decision to grant Sepopa bail on September 8.
Extension II chief magistrate, Ms Kamogelo Mmesi stated this when the accused person appeared before court for status update yesterday.
Ms Mmesi explained that since the accused had already been granted bail, the report was no longer necessary.
“The report does not serve any purpose anymore because it was meant to be a major determinant on whether the accused is granted bail or not, but since he is already on bail the report will not even form part of the proceedings,” she said.
Ms Mmesi’s ruling on the report was after state prosecutor, Ms Katlego Seema attempted to present the report on the assessment, which was done at the request of the court prior to Sepopa being granted bail.
After the ruling, Ms Seema indicated to the court that now that the issue had been dealt with, prosecution would focus on preparation of paperwork to commit the case to the high court for start of trial.
She therefore requested the court to grant prosecution two months to wrap up the process, a request, which was duly granted.
Sepopa will appear on November 22 for status hearing.
The 35-year-old Botswana Defence Force captain is accused of the murder of his wife, Bogolo Sepopa and another woman, Same Moapare on July 17 at BDF Village camp. ENDS
