Leader urges youth to be innovative
03 Dec 2013
A representative of Ovambanderu Youth League in Namibia, Mr Rijamekee Nguvauva has urged young people to venture into income generating projects to improve their lives.
Speaking at the recent Mbanderu Youth Association of Botswana (MYAB) annual conference, he challenged them to come up with new economically sustainable innovations, strategies and skills to create employment for others.
MYAB is a group comprising young people from the Ovambanderu community which seeks to promote and uphold the unique and diverse culture of the Ovambanderu people.
Mr Nguvauva told conference participants who came from all corners of the country that they should appreciate government’s enormous contributions to improve their lives, and should as such work hard to realise their potential and reduce dependence on the nation’s limited resources.
Earlier on, the chairperson of the association, Mr Joseph Uananisa said as a non-profit making organisation as well as an entity with a tribal community focus MYAB has had to deal with serious challenges hence the need for it to make its mark on the national platform through recognition of its wonderful goals and ambitions.
He said through the theme MYAB sought to energise, motivate, encourage and rejuvenate the spirit of selflessness, patriotism and commitment amongst young people, as well as the community at large.
“We had very high hopes and expectations to wind-up this year on a high note as we seek to take stock of our efforts during the year; appreciate the little successes we have had during the period, and desire therefore to highlight and elevate those elements for future perfections and sustainability”, he added.
Mr Uananisa emphasised the importance of identifying better strategies in order to propel the association forward. Members were also encouraged to continue with the campaign for new members and to rise above mediocrity. “It surely can never be business as usual if we want to any success in propelling our community forward”, he added.
He said efforts had been made to make the association visible and reach as many young people through the establishment of a ‘Facebook Page’ on which membership and prospective members could access latest information about the association. In addition he noted that the secretariat was working on the final stages of launching a website with which they hoped to make the organisation more visible. ENDS
