G77CHINA SUMMIT SETS TONE

The G77+China Summit members convened in Cuba under the theme: Development Challenges: The role of Science, Innovation and Technology to feed into discussions of the coming 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
G77 is a negotiating group within the UN framework formed by developing countries or countries of the south as they were commonly known.
Director multilateral at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Zinene Sinombe says the theme is appropriate as in the coming days, the 78th session of the UN General Assembly will look at progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and assess progress towards attaining Agenda 2030.
He said the G77 Summit will discuss the role of innovation in addressing the different problems that developing countries are facing in relation to post COVID-19 issues, slow industrial development, slow development of infrastructure as well as poverty eradication and closing the equity in the society.
Mr Sinombe says President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will attend the official opening as well as the general discussions session where heads of state and government will make statements on the challenges faced and solutions thereof.
As part of the G77+China Summit activities, Mr Sinombe said President Masisi, First Lady Neo Masisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Communications, Knowledge, and Technology, Mr Thulagano Segokgo and other senior government officials will visit the Heroes Park.
The park, he says is a historic monument where statues of the forefathers are erected including that of the founding President of Botswana, Sir Seretse Khama. Ends
