New special centre opens in Maun next year

The new Maun Centre for Special Education will be opened for learners in January next year, says North West District Council chairperson, Mr Itumeleng Kelebetseng.

He said 100 learners with severe profound intellectual and multiple disabilities would be admitted, and that 64 would reside at the facility while 36 would be day scholars.

The centre, he said, would admit learners from across the country and that different districts would be allocated quotas to ensure representation of all.

Councillors were also informed about the construction of tribal administration offices in Maun. Mr Kelebetseng said the project was scheduled to be completed in February 2025.

On the upgrading of Maun Bus Rank, he said the project would be administered through the development manager model.

Furthermore, Mr Kelebetseng told councillors that the district was constructing a new fully-fledged primary school at Senonnori ward.

He also said the construction of the Boro two-teacher classroom school was at 75 per cent completion stage.

He noted that the school was funded through the Maun West Constituency Community Fund to the tune of P2.5 million.

Councillors were also informed that some projects aimed at providing quality health services to the community had been completed.

He said an operation theatre was opened last month and that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) still required staffing and equipment to operate.

He said other units included dental, which was opened last week and the Maun Clinic, which was handed over this month

He said on-call rooms at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital needed minor works while the Sehithwa residential staff houses were 99 per cent  complete. Ends
