A 41-year-old night watchman employed by the Department of Veterinary Services was on Monday denied bail by the Ghanzi Senior Magistrate Mpho Molema.
The accused person, Keamogetse Bongbong faces an assault occasioning actual bodily harm charge after he allegedly assaulted his wife, Julia Bongbong, with a hard object causing her to sustain injuries on her face at Kgaphamadi Ward on Saturday.
The accused plea was reserved as the prosecution said the victim was still admitted at the Ghanzi Primary Hospital under unstable condition with severe head injuries.
Advancing reasons why the accused should be denied bail, investigating officer, Constable Temogo Ramohubu indicated that the case was still at an infant stage and they had not yet recorded statements from the victim and possible witnesses.
He further told the court that the accused was traced and arrested near Hanahai valley while trying to evade the police.
The accused will appear again on September 25 for mention.
In a separate matter, unemployed Sakarea Dabe, who was arraigned before the Ghanzi magistrate on a defilement charge, was granted conditional bail and Magistrate Molema ordered the accused to appear in court on December 14.
Dabe is alleged to have sexually assaulted a girl under 18 years between September 7 and 8.
Sub inspector Kefilwe Makepe of Botswana Police Service is prosecuting both cases. ENDS
