11 Sep 2023

Members of the Mmathethe UCCSA should do regular exercises to keep their bodies healthy and win the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Speaking on behalf of the area Member of Parliament Dr Edwin Dikoloti, during the church’s heritage walk event in Mmathethe on Saturday, Gathwane/Mogojogojo Councillor, Baichele Mooketsane, informed congregants that exercising helps in the fight against NCDs.

He said a healthy and fit body was less likely to be affected by NCDs. “A healthy and fit body is more productive than unhealthy one hence the more reason why we have to exercise,” he added.

He said government spent a lot of money on the fight against NCDs, noting that exercising could reduce money used and such funds could be channeled to other development projects.

Cllr Mooketsane also advised them to eat healthy food, adding that it was vital to do things differently which would contribute to having a healthy nation hence productive workforce.

To realise vision 2036 ideals, he said, government spending on some avoidable situations should be reduced, giving an example of exercising to fight NCDs.

The church’s pastor, Ms Shiela Keitiile, informed congregants that government could not achieve all without the public’s contribution, adding that they embarked on a walk to encourage the spirit of exercising to help government in the fight against NCDs.

Rev. Keitiile said through the event, they also intended to raise funds, which would be used to better the nation, such as helping schools they support including Moeding and Maun Secondary schools.

“The government is working tirelessly to educate our children and the nation has to help,” she said. “We also assist children who lost their parents as well as the blind.”

She said walk was also intended to build friendships with people from all walks of life and remind members of their church’s heritage.

The Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti, who is also the MP for Mmathethe-Molapowabojang, donated P10 000 to the church. Cllr Mooketsane pledged soap. Ends
