10 Sep 2023
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed Mr Phemelo Rankoro Botswana’s High Commissioner to Namibia.
A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Mr Rankoro is expected to take up his appointment in Namibia next month.
He takes over from Dr Batlang Serema, who has since been appointed Botswana’s envoy to China.
The release says Mr Rankoro is a seasoned legal practitioner who has served in the private sector for over 10 years nationally and has also played an instrumental role through his service with private and government boards in the sport and medical fields.
In this capacity, he most recently held the portfolio of board director at Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital.
As Botswana’s envoy to Namibia, the release says, Mr Rankoro will contribute towards expanding the scope of cooperation between Botswana and Namibia.
Botswana and Namibia established diplomatic relations in 1990 and enjoy excellent relations characterised by good neighbourliness, strong bonds of friendship as well as shared cultural, historic and family ties.
Cooperation between the two countries covers various sectors including agriculture, water, defence and security as well as transport and logistics. Ends
