Man dies during encounter with law enforcement officers

A 38-year-old Zimbabwean man was shot dead by law enforcement officers at Bisoli Veterinary Gate when he resisted arrest.
Station Commander of Central Police Station, Superintendent Mogomotsi Kesupile said the incident took place last Wednesday around 5:30pm.
Superintendent Kesupile said the police initially received a report from a member of the public who reported a motor vehicle theft along Haskins Street.
Superintendent Kesupile said they were told that the culprit who had left and was driving towards Bisoli. He said they alerted police officers who worked at the veterinary gate and Botswana Defence Force (BDF) officers as well as veterinary officials about the stolen vehicle heading their way. He said the vehicle was intercepted and at around 6 pm at the gate.
He said the driver became aggressive and pulled out a knife and attempted to stab an officer. The culprit was shot and was later confirmed dead at Nyangagbwe Referral Hospital.
A member of the BDF was also injured during the incident. ENDS
