Mogoditshane/ Thamaga District council staff has donated food baskets to Serowe-based Save Our Souls (SOS) children’s village in support of the organisation’s mandate of assisting the unfortunate children.

Speaking during the donation ceremony in Serowe on Tuesday, the council chairperson, Mr Dux Mafoko commended the organisation for providing care to children from Serowe and its locality.

Mr Mafoko said the 10 food baskets brought was made possible by council staff  contributions.

He said they identified a need and found it fit to intervene, thus imploring companies and the public at large to follow suit. Mogoditshane/Thamaga District Council was on a three day retreat in Palapye and acted on good cause to extend a helping hand to Serowe SOS.

SOS alternative care manager Mr Bikie Morebodi said the village currently has 88 children.

He explained that as a Non-Governmental Organization, their biggest sponsor was international investors who had since cut down the budget by four per cent.

He added that the Russia and Ukraine war was also a major setback as more money was channelled to assist children who lost their parents during the war and those displaced from families.

He thanked the council staff for the good gesture and implored all to come on board to save lives.

He said the donations would go a long way in ensuring that life challenges do not hamper the growth of any child under their care.

Mr Morebodi shared that the village has under their care two international students, one based in the United Kingdom (UK) and the other in the United States of America (USA).

Former Councillor who owns Central Coffins and the Valley Guest House in Serowe Ms Keotlogele Kerebotswe also donated groceries amounting to P 11 563 00 to the village at the same event.

She explained that the village had always been close to her heart since her time as a councillor. ENDS
