Police arrest three men for copper cable theft

Police in Serowe have arrested three men in connection with vandalism and copper cables theft belonging to Botswana Telecommunication Cooperation (BTC).
Serowe Station Commander, Superintendent, Poloko Oteng said in an interview recently that three suspects, all from Mahalapye are; a 44- year -old and 48 year-old men of Xhosa 1 ward and 40 -year -old man of Madiba ward were found in possession of copper cables worth about P 87 776.
He said stolen copper cables disrupted internet and landline phones services in Serowe, Mahalapye, Shoshong, Lerala, Mokokwana, Palapye and surrounding villages. Sup.
He condemned any vandalism and theft of high investment infrastructure saying it should be nipped in the bud.
He said BTC was concerned about vandalism that continue to cost them huge sums of money in replacing stolen copper cables.
He expressed concern about scrapyards owners who buy with stolen copper cables.
he said the stealing of copper cables had become a global problem which he said was exacerbated by increasing demand for copper and other metals. ENDs
