Local musicians continue to make strides in international music scenes as another Gospel soloist Gaone Selebo got nominated for two categories in South Africa’s Ukhonukamva Music Awards.
The Shoshong born and bred songstress’ nomination comes just two weeks after another Gospel artiste Kabelo Eric got nominated for American Re-Up Awards.
In an interview, Selebo told this publication that her music journey started at a tender age of 10 and today she prides herself to a belt of five singles, two music videos with a new album coming out this week.
“While at primary school I used to lead songs at the school assembly hence after high school completion I joined several artistes as a backup vocalist.
In 2017 I released my single called; Re tlaa thaba,” she said.
She further alluded to the fact that her hit song Re tlaa thaba religiously played in Radio Botswana and dominated Batswana’s playlists, has reached an exciting plateau with the regional recognition from South Africa.
“A friend of mine from South Africa sent me an advert and encouraged me to register for the awards. I was initially lazy to, but eventually did.
To my surprise I got nominated for two categories being Best Promoter and Best Single,” she added.
Selebo continued to state that she had been nominated alongside Miliswa Ntumba, ZG Music Promotion and M Soweto Projects and Investments.
“I am working with different organising committees for the awards, fashion shows and talent shows, and I am currently working on coordinating Traditional Music Awards, which will be on December 9 in Kasane,” she detailed.
Ukhonukamva Music Awards purposes to help artistes discover and develop their talents and help build their brands to reach international standards.
The winners are determined through votes and results for this year will be announced on December 9 in Capetown. ENDS
