Masisi commiserates with Kgosi Seretses family

03 Sep 2023

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has expressed his commiserations to the family of Kgosi Gasebalwe Seretse of Pilikwe following the demise of Kgosi Sekgoma Khama in July.

Conveying his commiseration message to the family on Friday in Pilikwe, the President said he was saddened by the loss.

He thus wished the family peace, comfort and courage at this point of sorrow.

He also wished the family God’s blessings and encouraged  the family to find strength in the Lord.

The visit also accorded the President an opportunity to check on the welfare of Kgosi Gasebalwe’s family after his house caught fire.

President Masisi expressed concern over people who burnt other people’s chattels and government property, adding that they would face the wrath of the law.

He condemned the burning of the council chambers in Serowe in June expounding some people were having a tendency of using other people’s children to commit acts of crime.

He encouraged Kgosi Gasebalwe not to fear anything as one day God would expose perpetrators and assured him that the law would take its course and wrongdoers would be brought to book.

He assured the family that government would do everything in its power to ensure Botswana remained a safe haven for its citizens.

Deputy chief of ga-Mmangwato, Kgosi Serogola Seretse thanked the President for the visit, noting their life would never be same.

Kgosi Serogola said relevant authorities came to investigate the incident,  but could not find the cause of the fire.

He thanked God that Kgosi Gasebalwe survived the ordeal without injuries, but the unfortunate thing was that all valuables that were inside the house burnt  to ashes.

Kgosi Gasebalwe thanked the President for the visit, adding that his endless support was not in vain as that would go a long way in motivating the family in all spheres of life.

He expressed concern that his life was at risk, emphatically pointing that he had been through thick and thin, and tasted the bitterness of life as in a space of a month he lost two aunts, a grandfather Kgosi Sekgoma Khama, not to mention his house burning to ashes.

He expressed gratitude that Pilikwe residents and Batswana provided physical and psychological support.

Narrating the ordeal, Kgosi Gasebalwe said the fire started at the bedroom in which he lost everything to the inferno.

The President, who toured the burnt structure, was accompanied by Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, Kgosi Serogola and senior government officials. ENDS
