Water to boost production - Dikoloti

28 Aug 2023

Availability of water in the Mmathethe/Molapowabojang constituency is expected to boost yield and the number of livestock in the area.

This was said by Member of Parliament for the constituency, Dr Edwin Dikoloti during a tour of projects in the area recently, during which he appreciated progress thus far on the constituency community projects (CCP).

Dr Dikoloti explained that they opted to drill boreholes in different villages using the constituency funds with the aim to increase water for agricultural production.

“Availability of water will increase the number of community members who benefit from different government programmes such as Youth Development Fund (YDF) and contribute to food security and ultimately boost the national economy,” he said.

He added that an increase in the number of government programmes’ beneficiaries, would also create employment as they would need assistance and employ others. Furthermore, Dr Dikoloti said he was also happy about progress in the construction of water storage tanks, which were nearing completion.

“These storage tanks are now bigger as compared to the old ones, they will be able to cater even for generations to come. This is a commendable development since without water, developments lags behind,” he said.

The MP also visited Hatlhogang Trust in Mmathethe, which was assisted through the constituency fund to fence their farm for wild animals and drill a borehole. He said the project was unique and therefore required to be taken seriously because it had the potential to bring in considerable income for the members.

Metlobo/Magoriapitse councillor, who is also Good Hope District deputy chairperson, Mr Ketlhogile Keipeile also highlighted that drilling of boreholes was a great development as the residents mostly relied on agriculture for living.

“These boreholes will only be used for agricultural production and residents will now be able to get government programmes in good numbers,” he said.

For his part, Mr Poloko Phuthologang, a borehole mechanic at Good Hope District, explained that all the boreholes would be connected and running before the end of the year and handed over to village development committees (VDCs). ENDS
