In an effort to promote oral health in Central District, SOS Children’s Villages in Francistown, through the Greater Francistown District Health Management Team (DHMT) has donated a dental chair to Masedi Clinic in Tonota recently.
The donation comes after realising that there was lack of awareness worth regards to oral health.
The SOS director, Mr Kitso Motshwari further said that since most homesteads did not afford proper oral healthcare, SOS has started visiting schools especially pre and primary schools to educate children on the importance of oral healthcare at an early age.
“We have also gone to the extent of donating toothpastes and toothbrushes to underprivileged families,” he said.
Mr Motshwari stated that the chair would also play a helping hand in bringing proper dental services closer to the people of Tonota and surrounding areas, as they acquired such services in Francistown, which is costly.
He further said that the public should also help the SOS through donations as this would help ease the financial strain on the organisation.
Dr Kabelo Seemise of Masedi Clinic stated that the gesture was part of mindset change, and that the chair would play a vital role in combatting dental diseases.
In addition, he said taking proper care of oral health was highly essential saying people should not take it lightly.
“A person can fail to express and interact with other people due to bad breath,” said Dr Seemise.
Dr Seemise further stated that even though the Tonota health cluster has a shortage of staff, everything was being done to bridge the gap by providing dental healthcare services.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Bokamoso Radipitse of Tonota underscored the importance of dental health care and commended SOS Francistown to have donated a dental chair to Masedi clinic. ENDS
