BOMU secures awards sponsorship

01 Dec 2013

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, through the department of arts and culture will sponsor this years’ Botswana Musicians Union (BUMO) to the tune of P500 000.

The annual BOMU awards are slated for December 13, at the Gaborone International Convention Center (GICC).

The arts and culture department would be the main sponsor and other important sponsors would include the Department of Broadcasting Services through Botswana Television which offered 100 slots for adverts prior to the event, while RB2 availed 300 free slots for adverts and interviews.

Mmegi newspaper has offered an advertising package worth P70 000 and Club Media also gave a package worth P20 000. Duma FM has since started playing jingles and will also continue to conduct nominee artists’ interviews until the big event.

A Good Samaritan from Otukile Entertainment also supported the BOMU awards from her pockets with P5 000. Speaking at the unveiling of the sponsorship, BOMU secretary, Pagson Ntsie said they have always had a challenge of funding when it comes to the awards, hence he commended the ministry for the good gesture.

He said they mostly relied on the ministry for funding. He encouraged artists to professionalise and commercialize their music as well as brand themselves well, so that companies recognize them. This, he said may help artists secure sponsorship. Ends
