Man dies in fight at Shebeen

A 30-year-old man is in police custody for questioning following the death of another male, aged 28.
Charleshill Station Commander Superintendent Lefa Kareng said the man met his demise after an argument ensued between him and the suspect at a Shebeen at Utjiseu ward around 3am on Tuesday.
According to Supt Kareng, the duo allegedly got into a fight after the suspect mistakenly threw a bottle of beer at the deceased, instead of one individual he was targeting.
“The suspect disclosed to us that his target was another man who owed him P20. The target ducked the bottle, which eventually landed on the deceased person,” said Supt. Kareng.
Thereafter, he said, the scuffle began between the suspect and the deceased whereupon the latter charged at the suspect for injuring him.
“From the information we received, efforts to bring calm between them proved futile as they continued fighting outside the yard until the deceased came running back to bystanders for assistance before collapsing,” he said.
“We received a report about the incident, went to the scene and took the injured man to the hospital where he was confirmed dead upon arrival.”
Suspicions are that the deceased man was stabbed with a sharp instrument on the left side of his body by the chest, he said.
Supt. Kareng said investigations were underway and the suspect would appear before Ghanzi Magistrate Court this week. Ends
