Do Take a piece of us with you

Whew! It has been a hectic three-days for delegates to the US-Africa summit. What better way to end this important conference than to visit Botswana’s amazing and pristine game reserves and other places of interest?  We can guarantee you will be spoilt for choice, but we figured the places below may just provide a sample of a piece of Botswana that you may want to take with you.

The oldest protected section of the Okavango Delta, and nestled in the ‘heart’ of Botswana, Moremi Game Reserve teems with a variety of wildlife. Its untamed beauty and unparalleled wildlife encounters make it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiast and tourist alike.

Covering an area of about 3,900 square kilometers (1,500 square miles), the reserve bears the name of BaTawana Chief Moremi III, who was instrumental in its designation.

It encompasses diverse habitats, including floodplains, woodlands, and lagoons, which support a wide range of animal and bird species.

Visitors have the opportunity to spot iconic wildlife such as the elephant, lion, leopards, giraffe, zebras, buffalo, and numerous antelope species, including the red lechwe, which is native to the Okavango Delta.

What more, visitors can go on game drives led by experienced guide. There isn’t anything as enthralling as seeing an elephant or a lion up close!

These  trips are safe and take place in open 4x4 vehicles, allowing for excellent photographic opportunity. Remember though to always get guidance from your guide!

The reserve also offers guided walking safaris, where visitors can immerse themselves in its raw beauty while tracking animals on foot, again, guided by experienced and knowledgeable local guides.

Every part of Moremi Game Reserve offers a distinct and beautiful scenery just waiting to be discovered, from the calm canals of the Okavango Delta to its enormous floodplains.

You may want to go further into the main Okavango Delta itself. Covering over 15,000 square kilometres, the delta comprises mainly the Okavango River, which flows out of Angola as Cubango River. Flowing uninterrupted from the Angolan highlands, it meanders south easterly for 1700 kilometres through Namibia to enter Botswana at its furthest north-west corner of Muhembo, discharging annually, an average of 10 billion cubic meters of water into the delta!

Otherwise called the “Jewel of the Kalahari” the delta is home to some of the world’s most endangered species of large mammals, such as the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog and lion. Here, the visitor can have an unforgettable experience of bird watching.

The fishing owl, slaty egret, the eagle, swamps boubou and the lesser jacana all fly over the Delta’s 600 000 square hectors

The Okavango, the world’s largest inland delta is a safe place to visit in the company of a guide.

Goo-Moremi Gorge, is another a remarkable place to visit. Situated east of Palapye in the Tswapong hills, its lush, green vegetation offers a beautiful contrast to Botswana generally dry climate.

The gorge features natural freshwater springs, which rise over the hills, turning to streams and waterfalls. During the rainy season, the waterfalls collect in lagoons.

The hills are also home to different endangered birds such as the Cape Vulture, the black eagle, the black stork and Meyer’s Parrot among others and a great deal of butterfly species.

The gorge management offers luxurious suites and tents, inclusive of self-catering chalets. There is a beautiful restaurant surrounded by hills atop a rock, at which you can indulge in the satiating taste of our traditional food.

No, you should not fail to visit the Chobe National Park. Established back in 1968 the park covers a whooping 11 700 square kilometres encompassing floodplains, swamps and woodland, with the mighty Chobe River forming its northern boundary.

It is home to 15 different species of animals, conspicuous among which is the elephant. In fact, it here that you will find the ‘big 5’ roaming freely.

With dozens of safari companies offering excellent service, you can take a boat cruise to view the animals over the waters of the Chobe and see the great hippopotamus up and close or see the giant African crocodile sunbathing. The bonus is a mind-boggling array of water birds than you ever will find on land.

This is our beautiful Botswana.
