Two people have died in a plane crash at Eaton and Sons farm near Ghanzi, June 29.

Assistant superintendent Montsho Kgope of Ghanzi police confirmed the incident in an interview, saying the two, a man born in 1959 and a woman born in 1958, were identified as an American couple.

He said the pilot and copilot, identified as Batswana, had sustained injuries from a fire and were admitted at Ghanzi Primary Hospital.

He said the plane was reportedly taking off from the runway before crashing over the cattle feed storage roof at the farm.

Mr Kgope said the plane, classified as air van and belonging to Major Blue Air-Airlines and Aviation, had a carrying capacity of seven people.

An eye witness, Mr Kenny Ramosokwe said the accident happened hardly five minutes after the deceased boarded the plane and took off. He said the plane caught fire immediately after crashing.

He added that the people at the farm were able to put out the fire before fire brigade personnel arrived. Ends
