Medical specialists reach out to remote places
29 Jun 2023
Patients in remote areas who, under normal circumstances would take months to be seen by specialists, are now able to consult every month in their localities.
A press release from the Ministry of Health says 536 patients have so far been seen by medical specialists since arrangement was made to transport the said medics to remote areas.
The release says since the initiative started on May 16, medical specialists in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, urology, surgery, pediatrics, HIV/AIDS and pediatric surgery visited Hukuntsi Primary Hospital under the Kgalagadi North District Health Management Team (DHMT), Tsabong Primary Hospital under the Kgalagadi South DHMT and Ghanzi Primary Hospital under the Ghanzi DHMT, where they attended to 536 patients.
It says the initiative to dispatch medical specialists to remote areas was born from a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the health ministry and Airborne Lifeline Foundation last year.
Also, the release says medical specialists will visit Kasane Primary Hospital under the Chobe DHMT, Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital under the Ngami DHMT and Gumare Primary Hospital under the Okavango DHMT in the near future.
It further says the initiative will go a long way in giving many Batswana access to quality specialised health services within reasonable time, regardless of where they are located.
The Ministry of Health, therefore thanks Airborne Life Foundation for providing air transportation services for its staff members free of charge. Ends
