Ramotswa Police have nabbed three Zimbabwean men found in possession of freshly harvested potatoes.

In an interview Ramotswa Police Station Commander Superintendent Keoagile Tau said the three men were caught at a Police road block near Mmankgodi Wednesday morning.

He said the trio, who were heading towards Mmankgodi from Ramotswa border, had in their possession 64 bags of potatoes suspected to have been smuggled from across the border.

Last month Ramotswa Police confiscated close to 300 bags of onions and 50 bags of potatoes from suspected vegetable smugglers.

The suspects will face importation of prohibited goods charges.

Last year Government banned importation of some vegetables in order to encourage local food retailers to buy from local farmers. It was also meant to stimulate local food production. Ends
