School receives borehole

Water shortage will soon be a thing of the past at Nthwalang Junior Secondary School (JSS) courtesy of Care for Humanity (CFH) trust, which has drilled a borehole for the school.
Nthwalang JSS and the Digawana community have embraced the noble gesture, saying it would alleviate the decades-long lack of reliable water, leading to residents trekking kilometres to neighbouring villages to fetch water.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Digawana recently, Nthwalang JSS school head, Ms Olebile Mokgweetsi said the borehole would help motivate both staff and learners.
Ms Mokgweetsi explained that the donation came after the three boarding dormitories were gutted by fire, burning all the students’ belongings. She said the tragedy prompted the guidance teachers to solicit for donations, which led them to CFH trust.
She revealed that during a tour, CFH trust showed ‘the face of God’ by donating clothes and shoes. “They also asked if the school had any other needs and obviously lack of water came out tops, leading to the offer for the borehole,” she revealed.
She further explained that the project was very important to the community.
“Without water it was difficult to use the ablution facilities and cook meals. Our school and community are very happy to have been chosen as the recipients for this borehole initiative,” she said, adding that it would go a long way in attracting most of the staff members to stay and work at the school.
Founding Director of CFH trust, Ms Afreen Dhansay stated that reliable source of clean water would ensure that the school kitchen and ablutions can continue working.
Ms Dhansay said the borehole project was great because water was a necessity.
CFH is a youth-run non-governmental organisation that aims at providing relief and assistance to people.
Reacting to the donation, the Private Secretary to the Minister of Health, Mr Gaolape Mogotsi, said the donation would turn the school in Beulah, where there is never shortage of water
He said the donation would boost the student and staff morale.
Mr Mogotsi urged the Nthwalang community to invest in policing and safeguarding the project that would help in caring for the gift.
He further advised the school to utilise the project and engage in agriculture and water purification business. Ends
