Despite the chilly weather in Francistown Botswana Defence Force band (BDF) followers’ thronged Adansonia Hotel conference centre to see the band performing in style on their 23rd annual concert.

The relocation of the venue from the civic centre hall situated in the city centre to the new the place seemed to have not wedged the admirers of the band to make their way to see the band performing. And for the first time in history of the concert, Francistown concert was allocated two nights to give the fans ample time to enjoy the band performing in style.

Living to the penchant of the crowd, the brass band together with the chamber orchestrator band took to the stage to warm up the night with sweet melodies which had the crowd which was also made of the young night crawlers flashing their smart phones to capture the beautiful moments of the band performing love songs.

Among the love songs were Bette Midler’s “From distance” and Percy Sledge “When a man loves a woman” which was perfectly performed by Lister Boleseng to the liking of the ladies in the crowed who sang the chorus with him. Before leaving the stage for open performances by other groups making up the band, they wrapped up their performance with Madonna’s hit “holiday.”

As though seeking the divine of the Holy Spirit, a reincarnation of Mahlathini who betted out the icons and Mahotela Queens Phuthiumililo also performed the gospel hit of Kgotso Tshelamoya which had everybody in the crowd singing along at the top of their voices. At the time of the closure of the concert the crowd was still asking for more from the band to perform more songs from their favourite artistes.

This year’s concert listed Tshimologo Day Care centre in Sowa Township as the beneficiary of the P20 000 charity which was handed over to the centre’s representative by the 2 Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier Molefi Seikano. ENDS
