03 May 2023
A police officer attached to the Special Support Group (SSG), Mmoloki Lentswe who on Tuesday appeared before court facing a single count of threat to kill, will appear again on May 15.
Lentswe, 33, whose plea was reserved, is alleged to have threatened to kill Tsholofelo Ntsimanyana on April 29 in Mogoditshane.
He is alleged to have uttered the words, “Nna ke le SSG, ke bereka le ditlhobolo, ga ke tshabe go go bolaya, ga ke tshabe go bona motho a sule.”
Loosely translated, the utterances mean that as an SSG member, he used guns in his line of work, that he was not afraid of killing the complainant or to see a dead person. After the reading of the charge, the prosecutor Inspector Tsogo Rantopa of Botswana Police Service told the court that the complainant had submitted a withdrawal statement.
However, he said the file would be submitted to the Directorate of Public Prosecution alongside the withdrawal statement for a determination to be made on the case. The state did not oppose the granting of bail stating that conditions should include barring the accused from interfering with the complainant, state witnesses and to attend court sessions as and when required.
Granting bail, Magistrate Segomotso Phetogo ordered Lentswe to bind himself with P3 000 as well as present a surety who would also bind himself/herself with P2 000.
In addition, the accused was ordered not to be within a radius of at least 200 metres from the complaint’s residence or work place or any safe place.
Lentswe indicated that he would look for an attorney. ENDS
